Chrome plated ends can become worn and corroded. It is possible to remove the chrome layer, to repair the underlying surface and to re-plate with a very similar 'bright nickel' finish that looks the same and will not tarnish. New buttons can be turned from brass and new and old buttons plated to make them all the same.

Ebony concertina ends are fragile. The ends below were in many pieces and the bolt holes ruined. After re-assembly and extensive fretwork repair, they were finally stained and re-finished in black french polish as per original.
